Can I cancel my upcoming trip to Istanbul?

Last Updated: — 1 min read

If you have purchased a policy before January 12, 2016 you may be covered to cancel your trip under the Terrorism cancellation benefit.

Some policies include Terrorism coverage within the Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption benefits. This allows you to cancel or interrupt your trip due to a terrorist attack that occurs in your departure city or a city listed on the your itinerary. In most cases, to qualify for this benefit the attack must meet specific criteria. This criteria is dependent on the travel insurance policy. Common requirements include:

  • Occurs in a city on your itinerary
  • Occurs within 7,10,15, or 30 days of your scheduled departure date
  • Occurs after you have purchased your policy and cancellation coverage has begun
  • Be declared an act of terrorism by the U.S. Department of State or appropriate local authorities at your destination

In order to determine if your specific policy covers the Istanbul bombing on January 12, 2016, Squaremouth recommends contacting your travel insurance provider as soon as possible to learn your coverage and potentially begin the claims process. Contact information for each provider can be found on your certificate, as well as in our Claims information center here: https://www.squaremouth.com/claims
