Can I cancel my trip to the 2016 Olympics due to the Zika virus?

Last Updated: 1 min read

If a traveler wants the option to cancel a trip for the 2016 Olympics due to the Zika virus, if the outbreak worsens, or if a traveler is scared to travel due to the Zika virus, we recommend purchasing a policy with the Cancel For Any Reason benefit.

Concern over the Zika virus is not a covered reason to cancel a trip under typical cancellation coverage. However, policies with the Cancel For Any Reason benefit allow a traveler to cancel their trip for any reason at all, including fear of the Zika virus, and receive up to 75% reimbursement of their trip cost.

In order to be eligible for this benefit, the entire trip cost must be insured and the policy must be purchased within 14-30 days of the first trip deposit. This benefit typically increases the price of the insurance policy by 40%.

This coverage is subject to change at any time as conditions related to the Zika virus change.

This information may vary based on the travel insurance policy. If you have questions about a specific policy, please contact us directly at 800-240-0369. Our customer service representatives are available 24/7 and are delighted to help!
