What if I’m planning a trip to the Tour de France?

If you are a current policyholder:
The Europe Travel Alert does not affect your coverage.

A travel alert is not a covered reason to cancel your trip. Trip Cancellation is only triggered if you cancel your trip for a specific reason listed on your policy, such as a terrorist attack.

You can be covered to cancel if a terrorist attack occurs at your destination, as long as you meet your policy’s requirements for Terrorism coverage. The attack must be deemed an act of terrorism by the U.S. Department of State. Most policies require the attack to have occurred within a certain number of days of your scheduled departure.

If your policy includes the Cancel For Any Reason upgrade, you can be covered to cancel your trip because of the Europe Travel Alert, but you will only be reimbursed up to 75% of your trip cost, and you must cancel at least 2-3 days before your departure date.

If you do not have a policy:
The Europe Travel Alert does not affect the availability of travel insurance for your trip.

You can still purchase a policy with full coverage, including Terrorism coverage, for your upcoming trip to the Tour de France. If a terrorist attack occurs and you do not already have a policy, you will not be eligible for coverage related to the attack. This means you cannot be covered to cancel your trip due to a terrorist attack if you purchased your policy after that attack occurred.
