What if a global technology outage cancels my flight?

Last Updated:

If your flight is cancelled due to a global technology update, you may be covered through your plan’s Travel Delay and Missed Connection benefits. These benefits can provide reimbursement for unexpected, covered expenses incurred as a result of a significant delay.

To be eligible for coverage, you must purchase a policy before the event occurs and meet your policy’s minimum delay requirements. This typically ranges between 3-12 hours, depending on the policy.

If your common carrier is unable to rebook your travel arrangements within 24 hours, you may be eligible for Trip Cancellation coverage if the benefit is included in your policy. This benefit can reimburse your prepaid, non-refundable trip costs if you cancel your trip for a covered reason.

If you experience a cancellation due to a technology outage, it’s recommended to call your provider’s 24-Hour Emergency Assistance department to receive help and review your specific policy’s coverage.

This information may vary based on the travel insurance policy. If you have questions about a specific policy, please contact us directly at 800-240-0369. Our customer service representatives are available from 8am to 10pm ET, seven days a week, and are delighted to help!
