What if the FAA system outage cancels my flight?

Last Updated: 1 min read

Trip Cancellation coverage usually does not apply to cancellations caused by FAA system outages.

Trip Cancellation coverage for airline delays is typically limited to delays caused by inclement weather and mechanical issues. However, a policy’s Travel Delay or Missed Connection may kick in if the traveler’s delay meets their policy’s minimum. For most Trip Cancellation policies, the minimum delay required for benefit eligibility is typically 3, 6, or 12 hours. This information will be listed in your policy’s certificate.

If you experience a cancellation due to an FAA system outage, it’s recommended to call your provider’s 24-Hour Emergency Assistance department to receive help and review your specific policy’s coverage.

This information may vary based on the travel insurance policy. If you have questions about a specific policy, please contact us directly at 800-240-0369. Our customer service representatives are available from 8am to 10pm ET, seven days a week, and are delighted to help!
