On Saturday, October 7, 2023, the Hamas militant group attacked Israel with an airstrike, killing hundreds of people and injuring thousands more.
Most travel insurance policies can provide cancellation and interruption benefits in the event a terrorist attack impacts a trip. Travelers with an upcoming trip to Israel may be reimbursed for 100% of their trip expenses if they need to cancel. Travelers who are currently traveling in Israel, or those who are currently traveling elsewhere and planning to visit Israel as part of their trip, may be covered to cut their trip short and return home.
In order for any coverage to be available for terrorism, the policy must have been purchased before the date of the attack. In this case, only policies purchased on or before October 6, 2023 can provide coverage.
However, following the attack, on October 8, 2023, Israel declared war with the Hamas group. Acts of war are a general exclusion within most travel insurance policies.
