Jamaica Travel Insurance Requirements

Jamaica Travel Insurance Requirements

In late 2020, Jamaica introduced a mandatory travel insurance fee that all visitors must pay in order to gain entry into the country. However, that fee has since been removed. Travel insurance is no longer required for travelers visiting Jamaica, however the country’s embassy highly advises travelers still purchase it.

Squaremouth’s Jamaica Travel Insurance Recommendations

Squaremouth recommends at least $50,000 in Emergency Medical coverage for international travelers, and at least $100,000 in Medical Evacuation coverage. Medical Evacuation can cover the cost of an evacuation to the nearest hospital in the event of an emergency. These are consistent with Squaremouth’s recommendations for international travel, and provide comprehensive medical coverage for travelers visiting Jamaica.

In addition to these required benefits, Squaremouth recommends a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes other benefits for the most common travel insurance concerns. Primarily, this includes Trip Cancellation coverage.

For travelers who are concerned about losing their prepaid trip expenses if they need to cancel their trip to Jamaica, Squaremouth recommends insuring these costs through the Trip Cancellation benefit. This benefit can reimburse 100% of a traveler’s prepaid and non-refundable trip costs if they need to cancel for a covered reason, such as not being able to travel because they are sick with Covid-19 or another illness.
