Is it cheaper to buy travel insurance separately or as a group if I’m traveling with more than one person?
Short Answer
Typically, for Single Trip quotes, the total premium will be the same if one travel insurance policy is purchased that includes all travelers, or if an individual policy is purchased for each traveler.
Groups of 10 or more travelers may find creating a quote for a Group policy to be less expensive than purchasing a Single Trip policy.
More Detail
The total price of Single Trip policies will typically be the same whether customers purchase policies separately, or one policy together.
Purchasing separate policies can be less expensive if individual travelers on the policy are looking for specific optional benefits, such as Cancel For Any Reason, which might make their policy more expensive. Additionally, some providers charge an administration fee of – per policy, included in the premium shown, which may make purchasing individual policies more expensive.
“Kids friendly” pricing is available on some policies, and can significantly reduce the premium of quotes with multiple travelers that include children. Generally, a traveler is considered to be a child from ages 1 through 17.
Additionally, some Single Trip policies may have requirements if you would like to have multiple travelers included in one policy. If a policy has specific requirements, you will be alerted of this by a pop-up when selecting the “Buy Now” button on the quote results page.
For groups of 10 or more travelers, a Group policy may be a less expensive option. Group policies are specifically designed for organized parties of 10 or more travelers.
