3 weeks in and still no resolve with my claim for my husband who passed away. Not happy
Review Updated: 05/12/2024
I felt process was dragged out. I was filing a death claim,I felt I had to jump through hoops to get endless documentation to prove my husband didn’t show up for his trip. A death certificate should have been sufficient evidence. All in all I’m glad with the end result, but was not happy when they told me “congratulations “ your claim was approved, like I won something . Honestly it was too much to go through with everything else going on. Streamline your process for further claimants.

During my trip to China I was infected with the Covid virus. I had a documented positive test result. My trip was ruined and I wanted to return to the United States. This would incur cancellation fees with the airlines and increase cost for the new flight. The insurance company refused to cover these charges unless I got a note from a Chinese doctor stating that I must return home immediately for treatment. Such a note is impossible to get in a Chinese emergency room setting. So my choices were to pay the additional airline costs out of my own pocket or else suffer through Covid in a foreign country.

John Hancock/Sedgwick Claim services are denying my claim because I do not have a completed medical authorization form and receipts for payment.
The acccident happened in Bolivia and we had to pay the bills in cash so the only receipts we have are cash receipts.
The processing company for Sedwick says we have to talk to John Hancock and when I call John Hancock they say we have to talk to Sedwick who processes their claim. So no one wants to take responsibility to help me get reimbursed for medical expenses due to an acccident in Bolivia for which I purchased travel insurance for.
You can be sure that I will not purchase travel insurance from John Hancock again and we travel to Bolivia 3 times a year.

John Hancock was not good about explaining on the first contacts with them that the HIPPA form did not need to be completed by the hospital and clinics that performed the services that it was a form that needed to be completed by the patient. They kept saying these are the policies of the company that processes our claims and you have to talk with them. When I called that company they kept saying that these were policies of John Hancock and I would have to talk to them. Just a vicious circle.
After squaremouth Zero complaint became involved and asked for some more documentation and receipts, then John Hancock accepted the cash receipts and paid the claim.
Thank you Squaremouth for stepping in and assisting with this claim.

After vigorous research, I thought that the John Hancock Silver policy was the best deal. Thankfully i did not have to use it.

I had inadvertently entered the incorrect start date for the trip. I called the agent when I realized the mistake and they immediately corrected it and sent a follow up policy with the correct dates. This was very important as Ecuador was asking for proof of medical evacuation in 2023. They seemed to have dropped this requirement January 1, 2024; so technically we could have travelled without a policy, but it felt good to have one.
