We had reservations to travel to Egypt & Eternal Nile through the University of Minnesota Alumni Association travel program on an Odysseys Unlimited small group trip. Our Odyssey's reservation number was 480344. The trip was scheduled for October 30 through November 13, 2023. As you are aware, this trip was cancelled (do to the war in the Middle East) by Odysseys Unlimited and we have received a full reimbursement of our payments to Odysseys. The reimbursement was prompt and we appreciated the terrific customer service we received regarding it.
As recommended by U of M Alumni Association, we purchased travel insurance from Generali Global Assistance policy #23197W0402 on 07/16/2023 (this insurance was highly rated and purchased through Squaremouth, Policy 23197W0402). On October 23, we submitted a claim and supporting documents for a premium refund to Generali Global Assistance (claim #23122138-01). This claim was denied via email on November 10.
We followed up with Generali by phone on November 10 again requesting the refund of our travel insurance premium purchase costing $1,113.95. Again, Generali rejected our claim stating there would be no refund, nor could it be rolled into any future trip to Egypt. or elsewhere. We are turning to you and enlisting your help to obtain a refund from Generali on our behalf. Thank you for your help in this matter.

Without Squaremouths help I doubt very much Generali Global Assistance would have reversed their denial of my claim. Squaremouth is a true client advocate. In the end Generali did refund in full my insurance premium.

Before my trip to Guatemala I learned there was political unrest including roadblocks that would prevent me from reaching all the planned sites in the country. I called the insurance company to ask if I would be covered if the situation didn't improve and I or my tour operator cancelled the trip. They couldn't give me an answer and said they would review a claim if I made one
Luckily for me, the situation did improve and I was able to travel.

On November 10, 2023 I called 1-800-541-3522 (believe this is Generali / talked to Germain) to inform them that during our cruise (with Oceania Cruises) my wife tested positive for Covid-10 and we both we placed on isolation in our cabin for 5 days (out of the 16-day cruise). I also indicated to Germain that because our travel policy shows Generali as 'secondary coverage', I had already contacted our primary provider (Aetna) and they have indicated they will cover a large portion of the medical services charges, but not all.
I specifically asked Germain how long we have to file a claim with Generali, as we had to wait until we hear back from Aetna, to which he responded "1 year".
We have already filed a claim for my wife's charges with Aetna. However, the ship's Medical Center issued only one invoice on my wife's name which included my Covid medication. Aetna has indicated that I must obtain an invoice from the cruise line on my name before they could consider and process those specific charges. My travel advisor has already contacted the cruise line and I'm waiting for their call. I will file a claim with Aetna as soon as I obtain such invoice.
Thus far my only contact with Generali has been the conversation described above.

In order to process my claim I was required to find a news article describing the ground strike situation we encountered in Milan that caused our trip delay. I also was required to get a letter from the airline stating that our flight was cancelled and rescheduled due to this strike. It seems with all of Generali's resources they could do the research and save their clients the trouble.
Finally, I'm not sure how quickly claims are settled with other insurance companies but in my opinion the 6 weeks it took from claim submission to receiving a check was too long.

Seems to me your claim reps see every issue as black & white. Of course I:m upset w/the outcome but I feel I had some $ coming for my trip interruption.

My total trip coverage amount went down after my purchase of initial trip insurance when Premium Economy airfare was no longer available and my flights were changed to Economy. I was able to have Generali adjust the premium amount accordingly, and Generali issued a refund for the lower insurance cost -- an efficient process.
